Importance of Fiber Network Services for Business in the IT Industry

The success of the IT industry relies on various factors. But a reliable internet connection is the backbone of the business. Without the internet, the business comes to a standstill, and productivity takes a hit. This will result in pushing the business out of the race in the market. In this competitive world, every second count.

Enterprises cannot afford to lose precious moments in fixing up the internet connection or waiting for the files to upload/ download. A high-speed, trustworthy internet connection ill ensure that the employees have access to the best network that allows them to collaborate, share, and complete their work on time.

This led to IT businesses switching over from copper cables to the fiber optics network. At the same time, copper cables have been here for a long time and did their best to deliver enterprises with what they wanted. The changing scenario makes it impossible for copper cables to meet the increasing demands of the enterprises.

A copper cable sends electric pulses through the metal strands inside it. The cable is thick and appears similar to a television cable. The way in which data is transmitted is also identical. Copper cables have suffered during long-distance connections and couldn’t sustain the changing weather conditions. Yet, with no other viable option to choose, enterprises had to make do with what was available.

But with fiber network services for business gaining popularity, enterprises are upgrading their network and switching over to using the fiber optic cables. Even though fiber optics have been in the market for years, it wasn’t until recently that it came into the limelight. The main reason for this is the cost of investment, which made enterprises prefer copper cables despite their apparent disadvantages.

During the last few years, more and more service providers entered the market with the intent of changing the way industries looked at internet connectivity. This led to building an extensive network of fiber optics, that too for competitive prices. While not all service providers deliver what they promise, the best ones have more than proved that fiber optics is the best choice for an internet connection in the current scenario.

The following are some of the reasons why IT businesses prefer the fiber optics network for their enterprise.

  • Long Distance Connectivity

Do you know that copper cables can transmit data over only 100 meters? Yes, a longer distance is possible. But not without disruptions and sudden lack of connectivity! Weather, electromagnetic fields, and physical sabotage can make things worse when using copper cables over long distances. Fiber optics, on the other hand, can transmit data over 24 miles with ease. There is hardly any comparison between the two cables.

  • Faster Data Transmission

Fiber optic cables transmit data in the form of light. They are just 27% slower than the speed of light while the maximum a copper cable can handle is 40 Gbps. Imagine the amount of data that can be shared through a fiber optics cable in the time it takes a copper cable to share one large file. Faster data transmission means faster work and increased productivity.

  • Effective Cable Management

One thing that most enterprises end up having to manage is the bunch of cables that provide the internet connection. They need to be cared for so that they don’t get tangled, twisted, or broken and result in loss of connectivity. One copper is four times the width of a fiber optic cable and can carry only a fraction of its load. A fiber-optic network up less space and this is highly advantageous when the offices have limited space.

  • Future-Proof Network

Setting up an internet network will incur costs. Whether it is copper cables of fiber optics, the cost of investment will be more or less similar. But enterprises need to invest in a network that doesn’t need to be regularly upgraded. The existing setup should serve the business for at least a few years without causing too many issues. The fiber optics network is future-proof and lasts for a long time. The structured environment provided by fiber optics will support the needs of the enterprise for the next few years.

  • Bandwidth

Fiber network services for business provide greater bandwidth than copper cables. Businesses that share large files every day will need a network connection that allows greater bandwidth to accommodate the file size. Collaborations will become easier with increased bandwidth availability. The network will not crash due to overload.

The only factor IT businesses need to be careful about is choosing the right service provider for the network. By selecting a provider with a vast network and 24*7 technical support, enterprises can be assured that the company will be available at all times to troubleshoot errors.
